Caution at gas stations and ATMs

While filling up, keep the car doors locked as you wait, and put your wallet or phone away before rolling down the window to pay, not after.

Avoid isolated ATMs or ones in low-activity hours. If you need cash near your car, withdraw it before filling up, not after — that way you're not exposing cash right before getting back into the vehicle with your hands full.

If someone approaches offering unsolicited help while you're filling up or checking the car, thank them and decline firmly. Most are genuine, but it's a common situation exploited to create a distraction.
